Designing with Communities

This session is all about learning through doing, forgetting about the technicalities and stresses of the design process. Through mark-making, drawing, and painting, you’ll be guided to explore ideas of intuitive art making. Experimentation and joyfulness at the centre of the workshop. In the second half, we’ll shift into reflection, exploring what it really means to design with communities. Together, we’ll unpack best practices for meaningful engagement, particularly when working with vulnerable groups, and discuss how to create inclusive, authentic, and artful collaborative processes.

We’ll connect our initial playful exploration to real-world applications, considering how these creative methods can inform co-designed art installations, spatial design, and material choices that support immersive and inclusive experiences.
